The shape of the Bridge Pavilion is a result of a detailed examination and research into the potential of the diamond-shape which offers both structural and programming properties. It was noted that a diamond section can efficiently distribute forces along a surface, whilst underneath a floor plate within the shape, the resulting triangular pocket space can be used to run services. Expo Zaragoza 2008 was an International Exposition regulated by the B.I.E., the French abbreviation for the International Expositions Bureau (Bureau International des Expositions). The first international exposition took place in London in 1851. Since its success, numerous expositions have been held all over the world, including the Paris Exposition of 1889, which gave birth to the Eiffel Tower.
