Stereoscopy allows best visualisation of pathological excavation of the optic nerve head (ONH). The chronically elevated intraocular pressure modifies the shape of the ONH with a loss of the neuroretinal rim (in the picture it doesn´t exist any longer!) and an enlargement of the optic cup. The backward bowling effect observed in the glaucomatous ONH is evident. The lamina cribrosa is clearly visible at the bottom of the central optic cup.
