Coloboma of the iris

Incomplete coloboma in the right iris by 5h. The coloboma of the iris is a congenital anomaly due to a defective closure of the fetal fissure at the 10th gestational week. A coloboma of the iris - typically located in the inferonasal quadrant - could occurr associated with other development anomalies of intraocular structures (i.e. lens, fundus, optic nerve). Ocular colobomata are associated with microphthalmia and they may be idiopathic or associated with various syndromes.
